Intro to Health​/Medical Sciences Teacher, Upward Bound Program

Wilkes University invites applicants for an open Intro to Health/Medical Sciences Career Track teaching/workshop position in the Upward Bound Program. Upward Bound is a federally funded TRIO Program that provides support to high school students in career exploration, preparation for college, and ultimately, their higher education pursuits.

The successful candidate is responsible for implementing the academic component of the program by introducing students to a variety of health and medical science college and career pathways. Through structured class periods, the instructor will provide guidance and mentorship while helping students explore educational requirements, career opportunities, and professional pathways within the health and medical sciences. A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Education, and/or a related field is required.

A Master's degree is preferred. Experience working with high school students or in a college-preparatory program is preferred.

Please note that this is a part-time, temporary position for Fall 2026 with an hourly wage. Program dates run from September 24th through December 10th, with classes held Thursday evenings from 6:30 P.M. – 8:20 P.M. The hired instructor will be responsible for one (1), 50-minute class period each Thursday and will be informed of the schedule ahead of time.

Employment at Wilkes University is contingent upon the results of a thorough background screening. PA Act 153 requires individuals working in positions with regular and unsupervised contact with minors to complete additional clearances, including FBI fingerprinting, PA Criminal History, and PA Child Abuse clearances.
