Nursing Assistant - Days/Evenings - Geisinger South Wilkes Barre - New Acute Medical Surgical Unit - No CNA Required
Geisinger is offering a Nursing Assistant position with a $1500 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates, a $15.75 minimum hiring rate with potential increases for experienced candidates, and up to $3 in shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Financial support up to $40,000 may be available to become a nurse.
Responsibilities- Provide patient care within the nursing assistant scope of practice to support the multidisciplinary care plan.
- Identify, observe, and document patient needs and report changes in condition to licensed personnel promptly.
- Obtain and maintain specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, per physician order.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living and ongoing care, including hygiene and changing linens.
- Provide one-to-one patient safety watch as assigned.
- Process specimens accurately and transport them to the laboratory in a timely manner.
- Perform point-of-care testing and maintain related equipment and quality control.
- Assist in problem solving and preventing equipment and supply issues; support unit operations.
- Serve as a preceptor/mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner.
- Perform clerical duties related to admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths; facilitate patient throughput; transcribe and process orders per unit standards.
- Release and communicate test results to appropriate departments; coordinate patient transportation for tests.
- Assist with scheduling tests, faxes, and communication of electronic information relevant to the nursing unit.
- Assist in ordering supplies and coordinating patient needs for nursing items and floor stock.
- Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
- Operate and troubleshoot clerical equipment and coordinate maintenance of devices (computers, fax machines, phones, etc.).
- Access and transport non-controlled medications as needed to meet unit needs and transport to Pharmacy and Blood Bank as required.
- Support patient transport of medications and blood products as needed.

- Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – Required - Experience:
Minimum of 1 year related work experience (Preferred) - Certification/License requirements as applicable
- Full Time Days/Evenings (36 Hours/Weekly)
- 3 - 12 Hour Shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Every Other Weekend and Holiday Rotation
