ResponsibilitiesBerkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking an Underwriting Intern to support our Underwriting organization through project‑based work, documentation support, and cross‑functional collaboration from June 1, 2026 to August 7, 2026. This role is ideal for someone detail‑oriented, analytical, and eager to learn how underwriting drives business decisions.
What You’ll Do- Assist in the creation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedure documentation, as well as lookups and other reference materials.
- Provide input on communications and implementation with relevant internal teams, including Underwriting, Distribution, Policy/Underwriting Services, and Loss Control.
- Actively participate in the execution of underwriting projects and initiatives.
- Exposure to foundational underwriting principles and real‑world insurance operations.
- Hands‑on experience contributing to meaningful departmental initiatives.
- Opportunities to strengthen analytical thinking, communication, and process documentation skills.
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s program (Risk Management & Insurance, Finance, Business, Economics, Statistics/Data Analytics, or a related field preferred).
- Analytical problem‑solving skills and comfort working with data (formulas, lookups, and pivot tables).
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative mindset for partnering with Underwriting, Distribution, Policy/Underwriting Services, and Loss Control.
