Overview
Short Procedure Unit (SPU) Registered Nurse (RN) provides pre-operative/procedural care, including (but not limited to) the nursing assessment of patients, consent, and H&P validations, the starting of intravenous fluids including venipuncture, assisting with peripheral nerve blocks, assuring all lab work and other pre-operative/procedural testing is completed and communicated to team members, confirms surgical sites are prepared and marked, and the administration of medications as ordered.
Responsibilities- Perform nursing assessment, consent, and H&P validations.
- Start intravenous fluids including venipuncture; assist with peripheral nerve blocks.
- Ensure all lab work and pre-operative/procedural testing are completed and communicated to the team.
- Confirm surgical sites are prepared and marked.
- Administer medications as ordered.
Knowledge of professional nursing practice and the ability to apply the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) with close supervision.
