Position: Nursing Assistant Ambulatory Surgery - 12 Hour Days

Location & Shift

Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre (GSWB) — Days (United States of America)

Schedule

36 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 3–12 hour day shifts. Daily start time varies between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

Job Summary

Full‑time Nursing Assistant position providing direct patient care in the Pre‑ and Post‑Surgical area. Responsibilities include assisting with basic nursing care, supporting patient comfort and safety, and performing clerical duties to support unit operations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide range of clerical duties and direct patient care activities.
  • Assist with basics of patient care such as toileting, changing linens, activities of daily living, and one‑to‑one patient safety watch.
  • Improve patient comfort and safety and support the multidisciplinary care plan.
  • Observe, document, and report changes in patient condition to licensed personnel.
  • Acquire and maintain specimen integrity per policies and physician orders.
  • Accurately process specimens and transport to the laboratory.
  • Perform point‑of‑care testing and maintain quality control of instruments.
  • Assist with problem solving, troubleshooting, and corrective actions for equipment and supplies.
  • Serve as preceptor and mentor for new staff and students.
  • Handle admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths clerically.
  • Transcribe and process orders, confirm tests, coordinate patient transportation for multiple tests.
  • Obtain and communicate electronic information relevant to the nursing unit.
  • Schedule and maintain clerical equipment such as computers, fax machines, phones.
  • Assist in preparing and transporting non‑controlled medications and blood products.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Minimum of 1 year related experience (preferred).
  • Certification:
    Nursing Assistant (state‑approved certification).
  • Strong communication, computer literacy, customer relationship skills.
  • Preceptor skills and ability to mentor new staff.
  • Interpersonal communication and ability to work collaboratively.
