Registered Nurse – Patient Flow Coordinator; ED

Role Overview:

Coordinates patient flow and throughput in the emergency department, collaborating with staff, leadership, and ancillary departments to ensure efficient care delivery. Acts as a role model in professional practice, fostering effective communication, resource utilization, and organizational skills to support high-quality patient care.

• Monitors patient volumes and coordinates placement based on acuity levels.
• Communicates patient flow information to relevant personnel and leadership.
• Assists in bed management and addresses delays by collaborating with ancillary staff and transportation services.
• Utilizes tele-tracking to identify available beds and facilitates patient transfers.
• Ensures timely discharge processes and room cleaning, providing comprehensive handovers to incoming coordinators.
• Coordinates with leadership to remove barriers, expedite patient care, and optimize resource allocation.
• Addresses clinical delays, communicates updates, and supports process improvement initiatives.

Requires graduation from a nursing specialty training program;
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred. Demonstrates strong communication, organizational, and leadership abilities. Works effectively in a clinical environment, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.

Typical shifts are overnight, with weekend and holiday requirements. The role emphasizes collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement to enhance patient care quality.
