Position: Apply for Research Assistant in Bacteria–Phage Interactions

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a Research Assistant / Research Associate to support advanced laboratory research focused on bacterial–phage interactions. This role involves hands‑on experimental work in microbiology and molecular biology, as well as coordination of laboratory operations and data analysis.

The position is ideal for a motivated scientist with strong technical skills who enjoys working in a collaborative research environment and contributing to innovative studies in phage biology and translational microbiology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on bacteria and phage cultures, including experimental design and execution
  • Perform high‑throughput microbiology and molecular biology techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR and gel electrophoresis, molecular cloning and bacterial transformation, sequencing and data interpretation
  • Assemble, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Collect, analyze, and visualize experimental data
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and present research findings
  • Assist with preparation of manuscripts, reports, and scientific presentations
  • Support laboratory management
Qualifications & Skill Required
  • Master’s degree in a relevant scientific field with appropriate research experience
  • or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with multiple years of laboratory experience
  • Technical skills include proven experience with DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and molecular cloning.
  • Strong aseptic technique and experience handling bacterial cultures
  • Prior experience working with phages
  • Background in biochemistry
  • Experience in high‑throughput or translational research settings
