General Statement Of DutiesThe incumbent shall assist the Children and Youth Recreation Program Coordinator in the training, directing, and supervision of the Summer Day Camp and Recreation Leaders. The incumbent shall exercise good judgement and initiative in the day to day running of day camps and recreational activities for groups of children and youth.
SupervisionResponsible to the Director of Community Services under the direction of the Children and Youth Recreation Program Coordinator.
Major Duties And Responsibilities- Plan and coordinate day camp activities for licensed care programs and recreational programs in the out of school months; including daytrips, outings, educational experiences, and field trip/experiences are developed within the weekly promoted themes.
- Market the licensed care and recreation programs in many ways; print media, social media, direct delivery, radio and other related activities to encourage registration for participation.
- Marketing initiatives shall be planned in collaboration with Children and Youth Recreation Program Coordinator and the Events and Marketing Coordinator.
- Assist the Children and Youth Recreation Program Coordinator in planning and implementing the summer leaders training programs.
- Develop, plan, implement, and evaluate the summer day camp and recreational program activities through direct involvement in the program. Work in conjunction with summer leaders to ensure breaks, ratios and safety of the activities is ensured.es.
- Ensure that the program reflects the cultural diversity of Williams Lake and area.
- Follow pre-determined procedures for dealing with behavioral challenges and emergency situations.
- Maintain open communication with all leaders and coordinators providing them with regular feedback and evaluations regarding their job performance and their demonstrated abilities. A collaborative mid-summer assessment for all leaders or the programs will be required.
- Maintain a daily attendance list and issue a weekly attendance and activity summary report to the Children and Youth Recreation Program Coordinator.
- Plan and schedule leader meetings as required.
- Maintain a file of all information distributed to parents, thank‑you letters written, discipline reports, and other correspondence.
- Schedule and book swims, activity spaces and Gibraltar Room use with the Booking Clerk and in Perfect Mind.
- Ensure that all documentation for children and parents is gathered prior to the start of the program. This will include grant information, licensing requirements, and staff schedules.
- Ensure safety supplies, first aid kits and leader supplies are ready daily.
- Work within pre‑established budget guidelines for the day camp and recreation program. Purchase program supplies and equipment needed for the program in advance of the planned activities.
- Ensure daily checks to ensure that medical information has been completed for every child in the program.
- Ensure accident, incident, Work Safe Forms and documents/reports are filled out correctly and in a timely manner and submitted to the Children and Youth Recreation Program Coordinator.
- Other related duties as required.
- Minimum Grade XII education.
- Minimum 19 years and over.
- Must have a clean criminal record check including vulnerable persons.
- High Five Certification recommended
- Valid B.C. Driver’s License.
- Valid Standard First Aid Certificate.
- Computer experience including Word, Excel, and Publisher.
- Minimum of one year of practical experience in children and youth day camp or sessional recreation programming.
- Shall have the ability to deal courteously, tactfully, and diplomatically with people of all ages.
