The Tŝilhqot’in National Government is based in Williams Lake, British Columbia serving six communities, including ʔEsdilagh, Tl'etinqox, Tl'esqox, Tŝideldel, Xeni Gwet'in, and Yuneŝit'in. The Tŝilhqot’in National Government’s mission is to support and empower Tŝilhqot’in peoples to exercise their rights to self-determination within their traditional territories in ways which reflect Tŝilhqot’in philosophy, values, experience and culture.

The Climate Change Coordinator will provide administrative support to existing Tŝilhqot’in Ts’iqi Dechen Jedilhtan (Women’s Council) and Climate Change initiatives within the Nation such as Where the Waters meet project. There is a possibility that the position may be extended if the successful candidate has strong proposal writing skills and is able to help find additional climate change funding.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate climate change special events, workshops, and webinars, taking notes and preparing summaries of what is shared at these events
  • Preparing surveys, questionnaires, and forms for community engagement and feedback.
  • Assist in the maintaining an organized database of gathered knowledge, tools, and resources that support being resilient to climate change and support climate action.
  • Contributing to drafting reports related to the Where the Waters meet project
  • Support TNG & Tŝilhqot’in communities climate change initiatives
  • Research new funding opportunities and make appropriate recommendations
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of detailed grant proposals
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of detailed reports on funding allocation and utilization
  • Assist with Where the Waters meet with the project timelines and deliverables in collaboration with their supervisor
Requirements
  • Knowledge of Tŝilhqot’in Culture, values, and language
  • Complete working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point
  • Awareness of climate change and motivation to learn more and advance climate action within the Tŝilhqot’in Nation, its communities, and led by the Tŝilhqot’in Ts’iqi Dechen Jedilhtan
  • Related degree/diploma/certificate will be considered an asset
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organizational and time-management abilities
  • Proactive and self-motivated, able to take initiative and manage tasks independently
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Working Conditions
  • Travel may be required
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and additional hardware
  • Overtime as required
  • Lifting or moving up to 25lbs may be required
