Controller, Accounting, Financial Compliance

Prospect Blue is partnering with a growing and well-established organization in the Toano, VA area to identify an experienced Controller to join its leadership team.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys combining day-to-day accounting leadership with financial oversight and business partnership
. The Controller will lead the accounting function, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, strengthen processes and internal controls, and provide financial insight to support the organization’s continued growth.

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes
• Oversee general ledger activity, financial reporting, and supporting schedules
• Review bank and corporate credit card reconciliations
• Oversee accounts payable and vendor payment processes
• Oversee sales tax filings and related compliance
• Coordinate annual tax filings and work closely with external tax advisors
• Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and management reports
• Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Provide financial analysis and insight to support pricing, profitability, and business decisions
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and operational efficiencies
• Partner with senior leadership on budgeting, financial planning, and strategic business initiatives
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
• Lead and support the accounting team while fostering a collaborative, accountable environment

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
• 5+ years of experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or in a similar accounting leadership role
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
• Proven experience leading the month-end close process
• Experience overseeing AP, reconciliations, sales tax compliance, and external tax relationships
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

• CPA designation
• Experience with Epicor Kinetic ERP
• Conversational Spanish with strong English fluency

This is an onsite, Monday–Friday position in Toano, VA
. Flexibility or occasional remote days may be available based on company policy and seasonal business needs.
