Operations Manager
Position Overview
At David Nice Builders, we craft construction masterpieces through integrity, enduring relationships, and passionate people. Join our growing team and help us deliver exceptional retail construction projects that exceed client expectations!
We're seeking a dynamic Field Operations Leader / Retail Superintendent to lead on-site operations for retail construction projects across the country. This traveling role is built for an assertive, organized leader who has been running crews, holding schedules, and owning outcomes on commercial job sites, whether your business card says "Superintendent" or not.
If you've been the person everyone looks to on site, have managed subcontractors and kept projects on track, and are ready to own that role formally with the support of a growing company behind you, we want to talk.
What You'll Do- Lead daily on-site operations, supervising subcontractors and field labor to meet project goals.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to top-quality standards.
- Own the Three-Week Lookahead: create and maintain a rolling short‑term schedule that breaks the master project schedule into granular weekly detail, coordinating subcontractor sequencing, material deliveries, permit milestones, and inspections. This is a live document you update and own from mobilization through closeout.
- Serve as the site safety supervisor, enforcing OSHA regulations and conducting safety inspections.
- Interpret blueprints, provide technical guidance, and advise on construction methods.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, and partners.
- Use tools like MS Project, and Trimble Project Sight to submit reports and track progress.
- Uphold our culture of professionalism, cleanliness, and safety on every site.
We care far more about what you've done than what title you've held. Strong candidates will be able to demonstrate:
- A track record of managing subcontractors and field labor on commercial construction projects. Retail experience is a plus, not a prerequisite.
- The ability to own a schedule, including creating and maintaining short‑term lookahead schedules that coordinate trades, deliveries, and inspections in real time.
- The ability to identify problems before they elevate and drive a project to completion.
- Comfort acting as the site safety authority. OSHA 10 certification required (we'll support you in obtaining OSHA 30 if you don't have it yet).
- Working proficiency with MS Office and willingness to learn scheduling and field reporting tools (Trimble Project Sight experience is a plus).
- Willingness to travel extensively and adapt to dynamic project environments.
- Clear, direct communication with clients, trades, and project teams.
- Examples of your work: a project list, references from PMs or GCs who've seen you operate, or a portfolio if you have one.
- A lead carpenter, foreman, or assistant superintendent who has been running jobs and is ready to make it official.
- A project engineer or field coordinator with strong site presence who wants to step out from behind the desk.
- A superintendent from a different trade vertical (healthcare, hospitality, office TI) ready to translate that experience into retail.
- Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package.
- A company that promotes from within and invests in the people who deliver results.
- Mentorship and structure to help you succeed at the next level, not just a title change with the same sink-or-swim environment.
- Be part of a passionate, growing team dedicated to construction excellence.
