Description
Index AR Solutions is looking for an Associate 3D Generalist with a strong focus on rigging to build optimized, high-performance character and prop rigs to join our team and support the creation of custom-built augmented reality applications for real-world industrial use.
This role will primarily focus on modeling, UVing, texturing, and animation using Maya, Substance Painter, and Substance Designer. Index will also mentor this position in Unity-based technical artist workflows, including animation, environment creation, and shader development.

Job Responsibilities- Collaborate with app engineers and experienced 3D generalists to understand client challenges and project goals.
- Create accurate 3D models, UV layouts, textures, and animations that meet visual and technical requirements provided by the app engineer and client stakeholders.
- Communicate progress and incorporate feedback from app engineers and client stakeholders.
- Optimize models for mobile platforms such as iPad and iPhone.
- With training and mentorship, contribute to Unity animations, environments, and shaders used in production applications.
- Use source control tools to push updates and collaborate with the broader app development team.
- Create articulated skeletons (rigs) for 3D models for animation in Maya.
- Anticipate and resolve performance problems.
- Develop Unity compatible animation and rigging techniques that the 3D Team can use to import skinned models to the engine.
- Ensure all assets and rigs are optimized for rendering or game engines.
- Bachelor’s degree in 3D Animation, Computer Graphics, Digital Art, Game Art, Virtual Reality Development, Industrial Design, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience with Maya, Substance Painter, and Substance Designer for hard-surface modeling, UVing, and texturing.
- Experience with tiling textures and materials.
- Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn technical requirements.
- Experience with Unity or Unreal Engine is a plus.
- Familiarity with ZBrush, Photoshop, or other Adobe Creative Cloud tools is a plus.
- Experience with source control is a plus.
- Experience with prop rigging, mechanical rigging, skin weighting, hierarchy optimization, real-time asset integration, mechanical constraints, pivot alignment, hierarchy kinematics, low-poly hard-surface modeling, and texturing.
- Willingness to travel to client sites approximately one week every ten weeks.
