WFEW Spelling Bee Coordinator

Title: West Franklin Elementary @ Williamsburg Spelling Bee Coordinator

Payment Rate: According to Negotiated Agreement

Responsible To: Building Administration

The Spelling Bee Coordinator is responsible for the planning, organization, and execution of the school’s spelling bee program at the classroom and building levels. The Coordinator ensures alignment with scripps spelling bee guidelines and, on a rotating basis, manages hosting responsibilities when the school serves as the site for the county spelling bee competition.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and communicate timelines, procedures, and guidelines for classroom spelling contests.
  • Provide word lists, rules, and support materials to teachers.
  • Plan and manage the school-wide spelling bee, including recruiting and coordinating judges, pronouncers, timekeepers and volunteers; securing all necessary equipment and technology; collaborating with custodial staff to set up the gymnasium; preparing competition materials (word lists, scoring sheets, certificates, and awards); communicating event details to staff, students and families; and ensuring adherence to official spelling bee rules and procedures.
  • Supervise and facilitate competitions at all levels.
  • Submit required documentation and winner information to county officials.
  • Maintain accurate records of participants and results.
  • Coordinate all logistics when serving as the county host site, including facility setup, contestant registration, hospitality arrangements, signage, sound systems, staging and overall event‑day management; recruit and supervise volunteers; and address and resolve issues as they arise to ensure a smooth and successful competition.
Qualifications:
  • This position may be filled by a certified teacher on a supplemental contract. Others may apply using a Rule 10 Application.

Terms of Employment:

Salary and work year will be in accordance with the Negotiated Agreement.

Evaluation:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the U.S.D. # 287 Board of Education’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
