Assistant Circulation/Reserve Supervisor Job Description Summary

The Law Library Circulation & Reserve Department’s mission is to ensure that all library patrons find the materials they need in the proper location, quickly and easily, and that they receive prompt, knowledgeable, and friendly assistance with all circulation services.
Responsibilities- Assist with supervising activities at the Circulation Desk and the Reserve collection, and training part‑time staff and student assistants.
- Process materials for course reserves at the request of faculty.
- Oversee serials filing for the law library.
- Help create and run reports for the department.
- Check‑out circulating library materials using an integrated library system (ILS).
- Interpret library policy and procedures to answer questions from students, faculty, staff, and the public, using good judgment to make sound decisions.
- Obtain materials for patrons from various library collections, or place holds or recalls as necessary to retrieve checked‑out items. Search for missing material.
- Check‑in, sort, and shelve materials. Deliver material in the library and law school, as needed. Assist with stacks management projects.
- Maintain patron records in the ILS.
- Communicate clearly with patrons and staff via phone, email, and in writing.
- Conduct cash and debit transactions from patrons, including photocopies, overdue fines, and fees for borrower’s cards. Perform record keeping, data entry, and submit deposits and receipts.
- Assist patrons in the use of library photocopiers, scanners, and printers.
- Participate in staff training and staff development activities, and perform other duties as assigned.
- Handle some stacks management projects.
- Perform routine troubleshooting on miscellaneous library office equipment including photocopiers, printers, security gates, and doors.
- Report problems and communicate regularly with the supervisor.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to follow complex written instructions, handle cash transactions, and assist patrons with online and in‑print resources.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Customer service experience and dedication to fostering a service‑driven environment.
- Additional coursework/education beyond high school.
- Knowledge of and experience in an office environment with Microsoft Suite applications.
- Library experience.
- Supervisory experience.
Up to $46,000 commensurate with experience.
