Job SummaryThe Coordinator of Specially Designed Instruction & Inclusion provides leadership for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of instructional programs and inclusive practices that support students with disabilities. As a member of the Teaching & Learning team, the coordinator collaborates with division and school leaders, teachers, specialists, and families to improve student outcomes through high-quality instruction, evidence-based interventions, and meaningful access to grade-level curriculum.
This position supports the division's goals and priorities by advancing achievement, equity, inclusion, and growth for all learners.
- Provides leadership for the implementation and continuous improvement of specially designed instruction across grades K-12.
- Supports the design and delivery of high-quality, standards-aligned instruction that ensures students with disabilities have access to rigorous grade-level curriculum.
- Collaborates with Department of Special Education staff, school leaders, and instructional teams to advance division goals and priorities.
- Leads division initiatives related to literacy, mathematics, and instructional interventions for students with disabilities.
- Supports implementation of evidence-based literacy programs, mathematics interventions, and instructional practices that improve student achievement.
- Promotes and supports inclusive practices, co‑teaching models, differentiated instruction, and academic accommodations.
- Provides coaching, consultation, and technical assistance to teachers, instructional leaders, and administrators to strengthen instructional effectiveness and student outcomes.
- Designs, coordinates, and facilitates professional learning focused on specially designed instruction, inclusion, intervention systems, and effective instructional practices.
- Develops instructional resources, guidance documents, and tools that support implementation of division curriculum and instructional initiatives.
- Uses student performance, assessment, and implementation data to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
- Supports schools in developing and monitoring instructional action plans to improve outcomes for students with disabilities.
- Collaborates with general and special educators to strengthen instructional planning, progress monitoring, and data-based decision making.
- Supports initiatives related to executive functioning, social skills, and student engagement.
- Participates in local, regional, and state professional organizations, conferences, and training opportunities and communicates relevant information to stakeholders.
- Collaborates with families and community partners to support student success and inclusive educational opportunities.
- Assists in achieving School Board goals and departmental priorities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Possess a Virginia teaching license in Special Education with a Master’s degree, Administration and Supervision license preferred.
- Minimum of five years teaching experience in special education.
- Requires exceptional public relations skills and the ability to multi-task in various settings. Extensive work experience in instructional supervision, administration, curriculum development, or related experience. Requires the ability to work independently under general instructions with deadlines.
Performs duties under the supervision of the Directors of Teaching & Learning who provide guidance and direction through periodic consultations and discussions.
