Job Description Summary

The Judaic Studies program at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is recruiting a pool of qualified individuals for possible part‑time Visiting Scholar positions. Visiting scholars should be experts in their field and present topics of interest in Judaic Studies. Proposals should include a series of public lectures (minimum of two) and give examples of classes in which they could guest lecture, and/or research they would conduct during their stay.

Visiting scholars may be eligible to serve as adjunct faculty in Judaic Studies during their appointment. Interested candidates must be vetted for adjunct teaching separately by applying to the adjunct lecturer of Judaic Studies adjunct pool. This pool will remain open to address additional needs that may arise throughout the year. Your application will remain active as long as the pool position is available but no longer than one year.

After one year, if you are still interested, you must reapply to the most current visiting scholar advertisement.

  • Develop and give guest lectures on selected topics in Judaic Studies.
  • Conduct research during the stay.

Conditions of Employment
  • Restricted position contingent upon continued availability of funding.
  • Part‑time position restricted to the term to which it is assigned and not eligible for benefits.
  • Position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, including occasional evenings, weekends, or overnight work as needed.
  • As part‑time exempt employees, visiting scholars are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program. Total hours worked may not exceed an average of 29 hours per week over a twelve‑month period beginning May 1 each year.
  • Total work hours for part‑time employment from May 1 through April 30 may not exceed 1,500 hours, generally equating to up to 14 credit hours for fall/spring and up to 6 for summer, not to exceed 18 credit hours for the year.
