Writing Center Instructional Assistant

Provides individual and small group instruction and assistance to currently enrolled students who encounter writing-related problems in their courses. Provides a variety of writing-related instructional resources. In cooperation with other Tutoring Center instructional assistants and the Tutoring Coordinator, acts as a liaison between the Writing Center and the instructional faculty of the English Department, as well as between the Writing Center and other college programs.

This position is designated as Campus Security Authority (Clery Act) and Responsible Employee (Title IX).

Special Assignments - May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
- · Demonstrated writing, teaching and/or tutorial experience at the high school or two-year college level.
· Experience working with adult learners and underserved populations.
· Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.

Knowledge:
· Demonstrated understanding of competency in composition and rhetoric; experience with English, English education, or related Liberal Arts programs preferred.
· Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software, databases and electronic communications.

Skills:

· Excellent communication and strong listening skills
· Excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
· Analytic problem-solving skills.

Abilities:
· Ability to create a safe and engaging learning environment.
· Patience, flexibility, ability to vary teaching methods and resources according to student needs.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate with a team.
· Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend hours.
· Ability to work at multiple campus locations.

Additional Considerations
- · Experience with scheduling and tutor administration software such as Navigate and Brainfuse.
· Experience in a higher education setting.
