Math Instructional Assistant

Provides individual and small group instruction, assistance, and resources to currently enrolled students who encounter math-related problems in their courses. This position is designated as Campus Security Authority (Clery Act) and Responsible Employee (Title IX).

Knowledge Demonstrated understanding of mathematics foundations (arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics) necessary for success in associates degrees and certificate level career and technical programs and courses. Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software, databases, and electronic communications. Proficiency with graphing calculators.

Abilities Ability to create a safe and engaging learning environment. Patience, flexibility, ability to vary teaching methods and resources according to student needs. Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend hours.

Required Demonstrated math teaching and/or tutorial experience at the high school or two-year college level. Demonstrated understanding of the pedagogical principles in working with adult learners and underserved populations. Experience working with adult learners and underserved populations. Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.

Additional Considerations Experience in a community college setting. Experience with scheduling and tutor administration software such as Navigate and Brainfuse. Experience with math instructional systems such as My Math Lab.
