Adjunct Professor of English (Creative Writing

Job Overview

The English Department at William & Mary is recruiting part‑time adjunct faculty to teach Creative Writing courses for the current academic year. The pool will remain open throughout the year and no longer than one year.

• Teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate Creative Writing courses.
• Prepare syllabi and course materials.
• Deliver instruction and assess student learning.
• Hold office hours.
• Fulfill other instructional duties consistent with departmental needs.

• Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing or a closely related field, or equivalent experience.

• Ph.D. or other terminal degree in English or a related field (or ABD status) at the time of appointment.
• Previous academic teaching experience.

• Not eligible for work visa sponsorship.
• Part‑time position; no benefits.
• May require additional hours, including evenings, weekends, or overnight work.
• Adjuncts subject to the Virginia Manpower Control Program; hours not to exceed 29 per week on average over a twelve‑month period beginning May 1 each year.
• Workload limits: no more than 1,500 hours (about 14 credit hours in fall/spring, 6 in summer, not exceeding 18 credit hours annually).
• In‑person presence required; remote teaching opportunities are rare and must be approved.

• Fall:
  August 10 – January 9.
• Spring:
  January 10 – May 24.
• Summer Session 1:
  May 26 – June 26.
• Summer Session 2:
  June 29 – July 31.
• Summer Session 3:
  May 26 – July 31.
