Summary:

** The Department of Applied Science at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is recruiting a pool of qualified individuals for possible part-time adjunct teaching appointments. Beginning Spring 2027, the department anticipates instructional needs in APSC 251 Engineering Design.
Within the School of Computing, Data Sciences & Physics, adjunct faculty may be responsible for:

• Teaching assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses depending on unit need  
• Preparing syllabi and course materials  
• Delivering instruction and assessing student learning  
• Holding office hours  
• Fulfilling other instructional duties consistent with departmental needs

* Required Qualifications:

*** Applicants must hold a Masters or Ph.D. in Engineering Physics, Engineering, Applied Science or a related field, or equivalent experience and qualifications.

* Preferred Qualifications:

*** An M.S., Ph.D., or other appropriate terminal degree, or ABD status, in Engineering or a related field at the time of appointment (August 10 for fall or January 10 for spring).
* Previous academic teaching experience.  
** Conditions of Employment:
*** This position is also not eligible for work visa sponsorship.
* This is a part-time position restricted to the term to which it is assigned and hired and is not eligible for benefits.
* The position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, including occasional evenings, weekends, or overnight work as needed to meet operational requirements.
* As part-time exempt employees, adjuncts are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program. Total hours worked may not exceed an average of 29 hours per week over a twelve-month period beginning May 1 each year.
* Total adjunct work hours for part-time employment from May 1 through April 30 may not exceed 1,500 hours, generally equating to up to 14 credit hours for fall/spring and up to 6 for summer, not to exceed 18 credit hours for the year.
* Adjuncts maintain an in-person presence for the duration of their appointment.  Remote teaching opportunities are rare and subject to approval.

* Summer Session 1:
May 26 – June 26
** Summer Session 2:
June 29 – July 31 *  (expected contract effective date:  June 25)
* Summer Session 3:
