Summary:
The Associate Director, Mechanical & Energy Systems provides strategic and operational leadership for William & Mary’s mechanical infrastructure, overseeing the Building Automation Systems (BAS), Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), and Utilities departments within Facilities Operations. This position ensures these critical areas operate cohesively, efficiently, and sustainably in support of the university’s mission. The Associate Director will drive initiatives to optimize energy efficiency, enhance system reliability, and foster collaboration between technical teams.
This includes leading efforts to integrate mechanical systems, improve preventative maintenance programs, support capital renewal planning, and coordinate with campus partners to ensure optimal environmental conditions in all university facilities.
Job Description:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, facilities management, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Advanced experience (typically 5 years) managing HVAC, BAS, or utilities operations in a large or complex facility environment.
Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary technical teams and establish collaborative departmental relationships.
Strong understanding of mechanical and control systems, including energy management and building automation technologies.
Demonstrated knowledge of preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and system diagnostics.
Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with CMMS and BAS software platforms.
Knowledge of Siemens, Johnson Controls, or comparable BAS platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in higher education or institutional facilities management.
Familiarity with sustainability frameworks (LEED, ASHRAE, etc.) and energy reporting standards.
Experience in capital project planning and mechanical system commissioning.
Pay: $75,000.00 - $93,800.00 per year Benefits:401(k)401(k) matching
