Job Summary

The Biomedical Equipment Lead Technician supports Government biomedical maintenance operations by overseeing the installation, maintenance, repair, calibration, and compliance of complex diagnostic and clinical medical equipment. This position provides technical leadership, performs advanced troubleshooting, and ensures equipment safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance in support of mission‑critical medical operations. The role also includes mentoring junior technicians, coordinating workflows, and supporting warehouse and logistics activities as required by the contract.

and Responsibilities
  • Oversee the installation, preventive maintenance, repair, calibration, and validation of complex biomedical and diagnostic medical devices to ensure clinical functionality, patient safety, and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and act as a subject matter expert for biomedical maintenance and service operations involving advanced systems and complex technical requirements.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair activities across a wide range of medical equipment by identifying root causes of equipment failures, system deficiencies, or facility‑related issues and implementing corrective actions.
  • Apply in‑depth knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, design characteristics, operational principles, and intended clinical use of a broad range of electronic, electromechanical, and biomedical equipment and systems.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of electronic circuitry, including electronic tubes and transistors, X‑ray tube operations, and the interrelationships among electrical, electronic, chemical, radiation, hydraulic, pneumatic, vacuum, and medical gas systems.
  • Apply advanced principles and theories governing the maintenance, testing, and repair of complex electrical and biomedical equipment, including sterilizers, suction systems, dental units, imaging systems, and other clinical devices.
  • Demonstrate in‑depth knowledge of hydraulic systems by assessing grips, locks, stop and release mechanisms, determining proper adjustments, identifying leaks, and ensuring overall system performance.
  • Utilize advanced electronic, electrical, and mechanical test and measurement equipment, including multimeters, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, pressure gauges, micrometers, and calipers to diagnose malfunctions, verify operational performance, and detect wear or mechanical misalignment.
  • Interpret and apply technical manuals, engineering specifications, regulatory guidance, policy statements, and other governing documentation to ensure compliance with established standards and requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of state‑of‑the‑art medical technologies, including scientific advancements, emerging network protocols, and vendor updates that impact biomedical equipment support and lifecycle management.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to junior technicians by overseeing daily workflows, assigning tasks, reviewing work quality, and supporting training and professional development initiatives.
  • Perform duties associated with the Biomedical Equipment Technician labor category in support of Naval Medical Research Laboratory Command (NMRLC) warehouse operations.
  • Utilize authorized Government logistics, maintenance, and documentation systems in accordance with contractual and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate technical and operational activities with Government personnel and contractor staff to ensure seamless execution of maintenance and support activities.
