Job Description

Summary:

William & Mary’s Office of the Arts invites experienced applicants for the part-time position of Electrics Technician whose efforts will support a variety of technical and production aspects of the university’s arts programs and events, external and internal rental programming, and a full presented season that includes a variety of artists & mediums. Under the direction of the Associate Technical Director, the Electrics Technician for the Office of the Arts will perform technical duties in the areas of lighting and building support as well as ensuring that lighting equipment is maintained in a clean and safe condition.

The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in lighting/electrical technology to assess lighting needs for each event involving the Office of the Arts throughout the year in addition to supervising student production assistants.

This part-time position is not eligible for benefits.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre, or equivalent education, experience, and/or training

Knowledge of operating, maintaining, and repairing lighting equipment

Knowledge of theatrical dimming systems and their operation

General knowledge of electrical systems, both commercial and residential

Knowledge of ETC consoles, specifically, Gio@5 and Ion XE, as well as Paradigm architectural control

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Vectorworks, and CAD Experience with streaming and recording

Preferred Qualifications Prior technical experience in a performing arts environment

Creative skill sets with the ability to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously

Demonstrated ability to collaborate in an environment with changing priorities

Demonstrated attention to detail with an ability to prioritize and execute tasks accurately in a fast-paced work environment

Experience supervising student workers

Ability to collaborate with clients

Conditions of Employment Evening and weekend work is required.

This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.

This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.

Collaborate with production and technical managers to assess the lighting needs for multiple shows throughout the year of different mediums.

Supervise student production assistants.

Serve as light board programmer or board op as needed.
35% - Shows and Events Support Provide technical support for shows and events hosted by campus groups and departments.

Support lighting needs for shows and events within PBK and MAC, ensuring that groups have the necessary lighting equipment to ensure a successful event or production.

Serve as building support staff as needed.

Perform other tasks as needed.
30% - Equipment Tracking and Maintenance Keep equipment organized in all performance spaces and storage.

Ensure that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe condition.
