Workday Financial Reporting Analyst

William & Mary recently implemented Workday Financial Management and is building a modern, scalable reporting ecosystem for finance users across the university. The Workday Financial Reporting and Analytics Analyst serves as the finance organization's primary "front door" for reporting requests and distribution. This role creates and supports Workday financial reports (the first and preferred solution whenever possible), and integrates with the Fin Ops Analytics team to deliver complex, multi-source analytics in tools such as Qlik and Power BI.

The Analyst also helps standardize report definitions, improve data literacy, and enable self-service reporting while maintaining appropriate security and governance.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Finance stakeholders have reliable, easy-to-find Workday reports for common needs (cash balances, reconciliations, income statements, budget to actual, etc.)
  • Report distribution is consistent and controlled: the right people receive the right information on the right cadence with appropriate access and auditability.
  • Complex reporting requests are triaged efficiently: delivered in Workday when feasible and escalated to enterprise BI when multi-source data or advanced modeling is required.
  • Report definitions and calculations are documented, versioned, and aligned to finance and IT standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of financial statements and core accounting concepts (GL, journal activity, balances, reconciliations, close processes).
  • Demonstrated ability to translate stakeholder questions into clear reporting requirements and deliver usable outputs on deadline.
  • Experience with at least one modern BI/data visualization tool (e.g., Power BI, Qlik, Tableau) and comfort working with data sets and metrics.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, security, and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing reports in Workday (or another modern ERP reporting platform) with a focus on finance, accounting, or budget reporting.
  • Workday Financial Management reporting experience in a higher education.
  • Experience with Workday Prism Analytics and/or Workday Adaptive Planning (training can be provided).
  • SQL proficiency and familiarity with data modeling and cloud computing concepts.
  • Basic Python proficiency.
  • Experience building or managing a report catalog, standards, and governance processes for self-service reporting.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position may require additional hours worked outside of normal business hours.
  • Continuing E&G funded position and not term limited.

Job Duties:

40% - Workday Financial Reporting and Distribution:

  • Design, build, and maintain Workday financial reports and dashboards (including prompts, calculated fields, and reusable filters) to support finance stakeholders.
  • Own report distribution and lifecycle management: sharing, scheduling, run-time parameters, naming conventions, documentation, and retirement of outdated reports.
  • Partner with functional finance leads and IT to translate business questions into standardized report outputs and definitions.

20% - Reporting Intake and Stakeholder Support:

  • Serve as the primary intake point for finance reporting requests; clarify requirements, recommend the right delivery method, and set expectations on scope and timelines.
  • Provide end-user support for finance reporting, including troubleshooting, enhancements, and light training on how to run and interpret standard reports.

20% - Business Intelligence and Multi-Source Analytics:

  • When reporting needs extend beyond Workday (multiple systems, complex joins, or advanced visualizations), collaborate with Fin Ops Analytics and IT to deliver dashboards and semantic models in Qlik, Power BI, and other visualization tools.
  • Contribute to requirements definition, validation, and user acceptance testing for BI deliverables, ensuring finance accuracy and usability.

15% - Data Quality, Reconciliation, and Governance:

  • Validate key finance reports against reconciliation and source-of-record expectations; investigate variances and coordinate fixes with functional and technical partners.
  • Maintain documentation for report logic, definitions, and data lineage, and support governance processes for consistent metrics and KPI definitions.

5% - Future Workday Capabilities:

  • Support the adoption of Workday Prism Analytics and/or Workday Adaptive Planning as the university's roadmap evolves; participate in training and help implement finance-focused use cases over time.

Hiring Range: $70,000 - $75,000 commensurate with experience. For full consideration, apply by the review date of July 27, 2026.
