Surgical First Assist Registered Nurse – Williamsburg, VA About the Opportunity
A healthcare organization is seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse with First Assistant certification to join its surgical services team. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work directly in the operating room, supporting surgeons and clinical staff while helping deliver high-quality patient care throughout the surgical process.
This role is ideal for a clinically skilled nurse who enjoys working in a collaborative surgical environment and is committed to patient safety and positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures within the RN First Assistant scope of practice
- Support patient care throughout the perioperative process
- Maintain sterile technique and comply with operating room protocols
- Assist with surgical exposure, tissue handling, hemostasis, and wound closure as appropriate
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and surgical staff to ensure quality patient care
- Monitor and document patient care activities accurately
- Prepare surgical equipment, supplies, and treatment areas
- Adhere to regulatory, safety, and infection prevention standards
- Contribute to efficient operating room workflow and team communication
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility for licensure in Virginia
- Current Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) certification
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced surgical setting
- Previous RN First Assistant experience
- Prior operating room or surgical services experience
