Position OverviewThe Barista is responsible for preparing and serving a variety of coffee beverages, teas, and other drinks to customers in a café, coffee shop, or similar establishment. They create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere while providing excellent customer service and ensuring the quality and consistency of beverages.
Essential Job Functions Customer Service- Greet customers warmly and take their orders with a friendly demeanor.
- Provide recommendations on coffee blends, brewing methods, and specialty drinks.
- Engage with customers in a polite and professional manner, addressing any questions or concerns they may have.
- Prepare and serve a variety of coffee‑based drinks, including espresso, cappuccino, latte, and macchiato, according to established recipes and standards.
- Operate espresso machines, coffee grinders, and other equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ensure the quality and consistency of beverages by following proper brewing techniques and standards.
- Prepare and serve light food items such as pastries, sandwiches, and snacks.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the food preparation area, including display cases and refrigerators.
- Ensure that food items are presented attractively and packaged appropriately for customers.
- Handle cash, credit card transactions, and POS systems accurately and efficiently.
- Process orders promptly and provide customers with correct change or receipts.
- Upsell additional items such as baked goods or specialty drinks to enhance sales and customer satisfaction.
- Clean and sanitize coffee machines, countertops, utensils, and other equipment regularly.
- Monitor inventory levels of coffee beans, syrups, milk, and other supplies and restock as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the café or coffee shop, including seating areas and restrooms.
- Work collaboratively with other team members, including baristas, servers, and kitchen staff, to ensure smooth operations.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to coordinate tasks and provide support as needed.
- Assist with training and mentoring new baristas on beverage preparation techniques, customer service standards, and company policies.
