- Perform routine patrol activities (conduct routine patrols and inspections of all Colonial Williamsburg buildings, grounds, parking lots, etc.).
- Conduct regular foot, bicycle, or vehicle patrols to increase visibility, accessibility, and approachability within the community.
- Monitor safety conditions and document unusual conditions, situations, or events, providing timely and accurate information and reporting deficiencies to management.
- Detect and conduct preliminary investigations of crimes or unusual activities, including surveillance, interviewing victims, suspects, and witnesses, collecting evidence, and reporting findings to the supervising officer.
- Perform communications activities in the Communications Center, including receiving, analyzing, and prioritizing emergency and non‑emergency calls; dispatching units; monitoring fire, burglar, duress, access‑control and CCTV systems; logging calls; responding to phone inquiries; assigning reports to field officers; inspecting equipment; and reviewing previous shift logs.
- Maintain order, mediate disputes, and quell disturbances.
- Provide emergency assistance to the public, including administering first aid, CPR, AED, and moving or assisting incapacitated individuals.
- Enforce Colonial Williamsburg Foundation rules and regulations.
- Control access to restricted areas when necessary.
- Escort employees and guests as needed.
- Set up crowd, traffic, and parking control barriers and equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- No history of criminal convictions except minor traffic violations.
- Annual qualifications in CPR, first aid, and AED usage.
- Ability to work irregular or extended hours, including rotating shifts, holidays, evenings, and weekends.
- Willingness to report to work and remain on site during poor weather, storm events, or emergencies.
- Pass pre‑employment substance‑abuse testing and be subject to random alcohol and controlled‑substance testing.
- Obtain Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) certification as an unarmed security officer within 120 days of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
- Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Provide a 5‑year motor‑vehicle record prior to employment.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- May not have more than one moving violation or at‑fault accident within 12 months, nor more than two moving violations or at‑fault accidents within 36 months.
- Must not have serious motor‑vehicle violations such as excessive speeding, reckless driving, DUI/DWI, or suspended/revoked license.
- Two years of public contact experience.
- Two years of college education.
- Current certification for CPR, first aid, and AED.
- Typing speed of 30 words per minute and reasonable data entry rate.
- Excellent public contact skills and ability to handle stressful situations with people.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, and prepare reports using a computer.
- Exercising sound judgment under stress.
- Clear and concise verbal communication skills and ability to follow directions.
