Job Overview
* This position is currently part of a proposal effort and is not guaranteed until the contract is awarded and the position is formally modified.
* Amentum is seeking a Plumber in the Williamsburg area of Virginia.
- Assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures for heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Study building plans, working drawings, and blueprints to determine required work aids and installation sequence.
- Inspect structures to identify obstructions, locate and mark pipe positions, and create openings in walls and floors as needed.
- Cut, thread, bend, and join pipes made of metal and non‑metal materials, using hand tools, power tools, pipe cutters, cutting torches, pipe‑threading machines, and pipe‑bending machines.
- Install valves, pipe fittings, and multiple pipe types (iron, steel, brass, lead, glass, vitrified clay, plastic).
- Use screws, bolts, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks to join pipes; fill systems with water or air and read pressure gauges to detect leaks.
- Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposals, dishwashers, and water softeners.
- Perform routine maintenance, preventive upkeep, and troubleshooting to prevent malfunctions and identify improvement opportunities.
- Respond to maintenance calls and perform repairs on residential and commercial sites.
- Prepare estimates, track man‑hours, materials used, and order items as needed; maintain detailed work reports.
- Follow all policies, procedures, and safety standards, including the Service Contract Act (SCA) and related health and welfare provisions.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 3‑5+ years of professional plumbing experience in residential or commercial maintenance, installation, and repair.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a Journeyman License in any state.
- Possession of or ability to obtain an active government‑issued clearance at time of application.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and local plumbing codes/regulations.
- Real r’s License.
- Physical capability to lift 50–75 lbs., work in confined spaces, stand or kneel for long periods, and navigate ladders.
- Basic decision‑making skills and independent judgment.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team‑driven setting.
Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits: Hourly, overtime‑eligible position with potential health and welfare payment in addition to base hourly rate per SCA provisions. Hourly rate: $28–$40 (range may vary based on experience, qualifications, and market data).
