Job DutiesFacilities Technicians provide a variety of skilled trades services that support the efficient and effective delivery of JYF’s mission. This position will perform a wide variety of skilled trades tasks in a timely and professional manner. The position will perform tasks including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrician, and other building trades. These duties include but are not limited to three primary Foundation Sites:
Jamestown Settlement, Emerson Central Support Complex, and the American Revolutionary Museum at Yorktown.
Documents preventive maintenance task in Asset Essentials. Closes work orders with labor recorded within two business days of work being completed. Includes stock parts and non-stock parts used when completing work orders.
Demonstration of no complaints from the interpretative or exhibits staff of work occurring during visitor hours that would interrupt the visitor's experience, without prior authorization.
The position also supports other skilled trades functions as needed, and during on-call rotations. This position has been deemed "Designated Employee" as defined in Policy No. 1.35 DHRM - Emergency Closing.
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of:- Carpentry, HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing principles, practices, and techniques, to include demonstrated experience in utilities work.
- Basic understanding of electrical systems, repairs and replacement of switches, fixtures, breakers and other equipment.
- Understanding of local, state and federal building codes.
- The use of electric, manual and diagnostic tools related to the duties of the position.
- Carpentry as well as drywall, carpet or other flooring, various door repair and replacements, including closure mechanisms and ADA equipment.
- Working on HVAC systems, fans, blowers, boilers, chillers and other related equipment.
- General plumbing, working with fixtures, piping and other equipment.
- Work with a variety of people, install fixtures, and perform repairs.
- Effectively communicate orally and in writing and follow oral and written instructions.
- Read technical instructions, blueprints and drawings.
- Ability to work from heights, ladders or scaffolding, and in confined spaces.
- Must be able to lift weights up to 75 lbs.
Any certifications, education, or training in the skilled trades.
