Hennepin County established the Office of Multicultural Services (OMS) to address the emerging needs of refugees and immigrants, many of whom struggle with significant language and cultural barriers and are unaware of services to help them resettle. The staff in OMS reflect the refugees and immigrants they serve. Their role is similar to that of an ambassador – helping clients with Limited English Proficiency in all county departments and throughout the community.
This area is looking for a Hmong bilingual Case Management Assistant to join its team. Hennepin County offers an excellent benefits package valued at an additional 55%

- Seek out, interview, and assist people in need of County services
- Refer persons to community agencies and other service partners for services
- Assess individual and/or family needs using Broader Needs Assessment
- Develop working relationships with community agencies including co-location at community sites
- Provide interpreter/translation services as needed
- Transport clients as needed
- Represent OMS/HSPHD at community events
- Provide cultural training sessions to County staff and others
- Maintain accurate data bases
- Provide phone interpreter services on the HSPHD Hmong/Lao Language Line
- Take and return State Limited English Proficiency (LEP) calls or messages
- One of the following:
- Two years of responsible, paid social service experience providing direct client service
- A two-year human services certificate
- A valid driver's license with no more than two moving violations in the past three years, appropriate insurance, and daily access to a vehicle with which to provide safe client transport
- Fluency in English and Hmong both verbally and in writing; fluency in English, Hmong, and Lao preferred
- Experience establishing strong relationships with clients, team members and community collaterals
- Experience referring clients to county and community resources
- Experience assisting new American populations access county and community resources
- Experience working in an immersive client-service environment where priorities change rapidly and self-direction is sometimes required
- Experience serving on inter-organizational committees
- Experience providing training to adult learners
