Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Medical Material Specialist (MMS) performs clerical and physical tasks for all warehouse support service activities supporting the Navy Medical Readiness Logistics Command’s (NMRLC) Expeditionary Medical System (EXMED) mission. The employee will perform tasks involved in the receiving, shipping, storing (stowing), selecting (picking) supply turn-in (disposal), packing (kitting and stuffing) or unpacking (downloading) and inventory of general or specialized material and equipment.

The MMS utilizes the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS) database, HIMS database, or other DoD authorized system to accurately account for and process the Table of Allowances (TOA) which are sometimes also referred to as Authorized Medical Allowance Lists (AMALs) or Authorized Dental Allowance Lists (ADALs) which comprise EXMEDS.

Typical Duties
  • Be proficient in the use of the DMLSS, HIMS or other authorized database of record for routine processes.
  • Provide warehouse support pertaining to warehouse logistics. Duties include receiving, shipping, storing (stowing), selecting (picking) supply turn-in (disposal), packing (kitting and stuffing) or unpacking (downloading) and inventory of general or specialized material and equipment.
  • Perform inventory and documentation of supply stock utilizing DMLSS or other military database of record. Adjust stock levels as directed and support excess or unserviceable material disposal processes.
  • Review, stock, and re-supply medical logistics items and remove expired items from shelves or kitted EXMEDS.
  • Perform quality control on transaction records and file documents appropriately and promptly.
  • Research quality assurance messages utilizing DMLSS or other military database of record.
  • Review documents to ensure proper information, obtain missing information, resolve inconsistencies, deviations from general rules or major omissions.
  • Perform receiving duties including unloading and processing incoming shipments. Check documentation against containers or packing labels, report over, short, or damaged items, open containers and remove dunnage. Segregate material, generate labels, route or move material to staging or stow locations.
  • Perform inventory control work supporting a broad range of duties required to accomplish the mission of a large production, sustainment, and distribution center. Duties include counting types, quantities, and condition of items during inventories, surveys, physical inventory, material handling, examining and identifying, packing, operating material handling equipment, analyzing and revising inventory.
  • Perform platform stowing of material and prepare for rapid deployment.
  • Perform Pick, Pack, Preserve, and Crate (PPP&C) tasks for kitting and shipping of EXMEDS.
  • Perform administrative duties such as word processing, data entry, electronic mail, document retrieval and maintaining electronic files.
  • Maintain general warehouse cleanliness and aesthetics within assigned sections.
  • Assume specialized experience in supply activities, ordering, receiving, customer support, inventory management, assemblage, warehousing, and operation of material handling equipment.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in logistics or medical warehouse operations.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Detail-oriented and proficient at adhering to SOPs, Navy guidelines, and DoD publications.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer literacy and ability to look up and enter information using a computer; proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to learn specialized software related to departmental operations.
