The Safety Supervisor - Medical Logistics is responsible for planning, implementing, and enforcing safety programs across medical logistics operations, including warehousing, inventory management, transportation, and hazardous material handling. This role ensures full compliance with applicable DoD, OSHA, DOT, and contract-specific safety requirements, while maintaining mission readiness and protecting personnel, equipment, and government property.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Program Oversight
- Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific safety programs, policies, and SOPs.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and DoD safety regulations and contractual requirements.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across warehouse and fielding operations.
- Enforce adherence to safe work practices during all logistics functions (receiving, storage, transportation, and deployment).
Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) & PPE Compliance
- Oversee safe handling, storage, packaging, and transportation of hazardous materials.
- Ensure personnel are properly trained and certified for HAZMAT operations.
- Enforce proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with ANSI and DoD standards.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure accessibility at all work centers.
Incident Prevention & Reporting
- Investigate accidents, near-misses, and hazardous conditions.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions to mitigate future incidents.
- Maintain incident logs, safety metrics, and required reports for leadership and government stakeholders.
- Ensure timely reporting to appropriate authorities in accordance with contract requirements.
Training & Workforce Compliance
- Conduct initial and recurring safety training (e.g., warehouse safety, equipment handling, HAZMAT, PPE).
- Ensure all personnel maintain required certifications (forklift, driver qualifications, medical clearance, etc.).
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across the workforce.
Warehouse & Logistics Operations Safety
- Integrate safety controls into daily logistics operations, including receiving, shipping, storage, DRMO, shelf life, CEE, production, pre-production, and sustainment.
- Manage inventory, material handling, and equipment operation (forklifts, MHE).
- Ensure safe layout, material segregation (including hazardous and sensitive items), and facility security practices.
Compliance, Audits & Continuous Improvement
- Lead internal safety audits and support government inspections.
- Track and report KPIs related to safety performance.
- Recommend process improvements to reduce risk and enhance operational safety.
- Ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s preferred in Safety, Logistics, or related field).
- 5+ years of experience in safety management within logistics, medical logistics, or warehouse operations.
- Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and DoD safety regulations.
- Experience with HAZMAT handling and PPE compliance requirements.
- Ability to interpret and apply safety regulations, manuals, and technical guidance.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), OSHA certifications, or equivalent.
- HAZMAT Certification.
- Forklift/MHE certification experience.
- Prior military or federal medical logistics experience (DMLSS, MMIS familiarity).
- Ability to perform moderate physical activity (standing, walking, lifting up to 45+ lbs).
- Work in warehouse and outdoor environments with exposure to operational hazards.
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, reach, and move throughout warehouse and operational environments.
- Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to work in warehouses, field, deployment, and austere environments as required.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety shoes, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and hard hats.
