Overview

The Orientation Leader Captain will provide support to the Office of Student Engagement via their direct work with the New Student Orientation program and the Welcome Week program. The student will complete specific projects assigned by the Director and Associate Director of Student Engagement. Must be willing to work on a flexible schedule that may include weekdays, evenings, and an occasional weekend.

Some travel to other campuses may be required with accommodations available, if necessary. The incumbent will be required to live in on-campus housing facilities throughout the summer while the program is in session.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

* Must be a Penn College student and have completed 12 credits at Penn College. Required

* Must possess a minimum 2.5 GPA. Required

EXPERIENCE

* One (1) year of Student Leadership/ Student Activities/Residence Life experience. Preferred

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

* Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instruction. Required

* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. Required

* Ability to work on own initiative. Required

* Ability to work collaboratively with peers and with professional staff. Required

* Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students, faculty, staff, and the public. Required

* Familiarity with the Penn College environment as it relates to students. Required

* Valid and in State Valid Driver's License. Required

Responsibilities

* Work with the Director and Associate Director to develop, coordinate, and facilitate all aspects of the training program for the Orientation Leaders.

* Meet weekly with the Associate Director.

* Provide on-site coordination of Orientation Leader staff when completing tasks away from the Office.

* Carry out responsibilities in a positive and timely manner.

* Interact and communicate with professional staff on an ongoing basis.

* Attend New Student Orientation related meetings and training programs.

* Assist Student Engagement staff with the development and implementation of the New Student Orientation and Welcome Week programs, including ongoing interaction with incoming students and regular communication with staff.

* Provide support and coverage of New Student Orientation and Welcome Week programs and events that occur throughout the summer, which may include active participation in scenarios and presentations to first-year students and their parents, guests, and support systems.

* Complete administrative tasks as designated by the staff.

* Live in on-campus housing facilities throughout the summer while the program is in session.

* Serve as a proper role model for incoming first-year students and other students/peers.

* Provide support and coverage of Welcome Weekend programs/events.

* Be supportive of Penn College and its programs in both practice and theory and encourage students to participate in activities that strengthen the College community.

* Be knowledgeable of College emergency procedures and act accordingly.

* Provide support for Student Engagement programming during the term of employment.

* Participate in program evaluations at the midpoint and conclusion of employment.

* Facilitate a biweekly Orientation Check-In program from September through April offering first-year students a regular touchpoint and access to additional resources.

Physical Standards and Special Job Features

* May require some lifting of program materials.

* Ability to move freely about campus

Pay Transparency

Hourly rate is $12.00.
