Junior Geologist, Scientist Or Pre-Construction Sampler
Start, or expand, your career with our North-Central PA team as a Junior Geologist, Scientist or Pre-Construction Sampler, where you'll gain hands-on field experience and build practical skills on projects across Pennsylvania. This entry-level opportunity is a great fit for recent graduates who want to build experience in both the field and the office while working with an experienced team. You'll have the chance to learn technical sampling and documentation skills, contribute to meaningful client projects, and develop a strong foundation in environmental fieldwork.
This position entails outdoor work year-round, travel to sites in a company vehicle, interacting with the public, and occasional overtime, evening or weekend work, and overnight travel as needed. Candidates in the greater Williamsport, PA area are encouraged to apply.
- Conduct water, soil, and/or air sampling, site inspections, and other general field services independently and as part of a field team.
- Capture clear, legible, accurate, and legally-defensible field documentation using established documentation procedures in both handwritten and software-based collection methods.
- Calibrate and maintain a variety of field equipment.
- Prepare project documentation such as client reports, landowner reports, summary tables, photo logs, and maps.
- Build professional working relationships with team members, subcontractors, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- Follow all GES and client safety protocols and promptly communicate any safety concerns.
- Support a range of field and office tasks as assigned by the field services manager, project manager, or supervisor.
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline. Internship, academic fieldwork, or 1+ years of relevant experience is welcome.
- Residing in or near Williamsport, PA.
- Ability to stay organized, manage time effectively, and produce high-quality, legally-defensible work while continuing to learn and grow in the role.
- Work independently, in remote areas, with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to following GES and client health, safety, security, and environmental standards in all activities.
- Willingness to complete initial and annual OSHA HAZWOPER training and work safely while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Strong communication, teamwork, analytical, organizational, writing, and client service skills, with a willingness to ask questions and learn from feedback.
- Valid driver's license, good driving record, and comfort operating a company vehicle, including a four-wheel-drive truck, while driving in a variety of road conditions (ex., highway, dirt roads, lease roads)
- Ability to walk on uneven terrain and over long distances while carrying field supplies, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to clearly and professionally communicate with private landowners, community members, and various stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with Outlook, Virtual Meeting Platforms (ex., Teams), and other Microsoft Office tools is a plus.
- Familiarity with EQuIS, Survey
123, ESRI Field Maps, or other field data collection software is beneficial. - Successful completion of Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Qualified Visual Site Inspector Training Program Certification, or equivalent is a plus.
