Lycoming College, a small private liberal arts college in Williamsport, PA, seeks a Public Safety Officer to join our Safety, Security & Law Enforcement department. The officer will patrol campus, respond to emergencies, enforce college policies, and promote a safe, inclusive environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include incident reporting, access control, safety escorts, and collaboration with local agencies.
Candidates should demonstrate sound judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to community-oriented safety in a diverse, collaborative academic setting. Relevant security experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols of campus buildings, residence halls, parking lots, and grounds
- Monitor for and respond to safety hazards, suspicious activity, and policy violations
- Respond to emergencies, including medical incidents, disturbances, fire alarms, and severe weather events, following established protocols
- Enforce college policies and relevant laws while maintaining a service oriented approach
- Prepare clear, accurate, and timely incident reports and daily activity logs
- Assist with access control, including locking/unlocking buildings, managing keys, and checking alarms
- Monitor security systems and cameras and coordinate response to alerts
- Provide safety escorts and general assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitors
- Support crowd and traffic control at special events and during peak campus activities
- Collaborate with local law enforcement, fire, and medical agencies as needed
- Participate in safety drills, emergency preparedness activities, and ongoing training
