Assistant Director of Sports Communications
Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Assistant Athletic of Sports Communications position. Eastern is Connecticut's Public Liberal Arts University and is located in Willimantic, Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City. Eastern is one of four universities in the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). This is a full-time, 12-month position, reporting to the Director of Athletics.
Position Summary:
Responsible for media and public relations for Intercollegiate Athletics by assisting with daily operations of the Sports Communication office, including streaming games, photography and videography of athletic teams, updating social media platforms and the athletics website, and assisting with game day operations.
Position Responsibilities:
Performs daily activities of the university's athletic media operations, to include writing press releases, feature articles, coordinating interviews and announcements of university athletic programs. Updates the university's athletic web pages and social media platforms. Executes a comprehensive social media strategy to highlight athletic achievements, foster fan engagement, and provide content for enrollment management. Creates engaging digital content including videos, photo shoots, social media posts, and provides input on creative content strategies for various outlets.
Provides support with home game management which includes communication with opposing team sports information staff, press box operations, media relations, and public address announcements, as well as live stats and live stream operations. Assists with compilation, maintenance, and reporting of statistics for all intercollegiate athletic teams, in accordance with NCAA and conference standards and regulations. Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to apply federal and state laws and regulations, NCAA and conference regulations as well as university and BOR/CSCU policies and procedures. Knowledge of and ability to apply best practices of sports communications. Demonstrated ability in writing, editing, and media relations. Proficiency in statistical software such as Live Stats and Stat Crew/Genius. Demonstrated computer skills, social media expertise and website management experience.
Experience with live video streaming, graphic design, and video editing preferred.
Work Environment:
May be required to work evenings, weekends, and outdoors for games, events, and other athletic activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in communication, sports management, journalism, or other related area. Three (3) years of experience in media relations or sports communications preferably in a collegiate environment. Credentials and/or experience comparable to the above may also be considered.

The Assistant Director of Sports Communications is compensated at the Administrator 3, salary level in accordance with or State University Organization of Administrative Faculty (SUOAF).
