Principal Assistant

To provide leadership in the implementation, coordination, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment to ensure that all students meet and exceed the New Jersey Department of Education's academic standards. Achieving excellence requires that the Principal works collaboratively to lead and nurture students and communicate effectively with parents, staff, students, and members of the community.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a New Jersey Principal Certification
  • Hold a Master's Degree with course work in curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Have a minimum of four years of successful experience as a teacher
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to motivate people
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications
  • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative
  • Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and clearance has been given by the Department of Education
  • Required:

    physical and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the planning and supervision of the district's curriculum, instruction, and assessment program.
  • Prepare a detailed analysis of standardized test results along with a plan to correct deficiencies and build upon achievements.
  • Conduct in-service training, professional learning communities, and staff meetings to provide targeted and on-going professional development for staff members.
  • Assist with the creation of the professional development plan for the school year that focuses on district goals.
  • Develop and maintain an ongoing program of humanistic education.
  • Assist in maintaining high standards of student conduct and enforcing discipline policies.
  • Provide guidance to individual students, resolve individual behavioral problems.
  • Assist in the preparation of required reports of violence, vandalism, substance abuse, and weapons.
  • Assist in supervision of the cafeteria during lunch hours. Assist with playground supervision when assigned.
  • Supervise extracurricular programs, assembly programs and assignment of faculty members to assist at school functions.
  • Initiate and implement academic enrichment and remedial programs.
  • Maintain data and action plans regarding student and staff attendance.
  • Maintain data regarding student discipline and implement proactive initiatives to improve student conduct.
  • Inspect the school buildings and grounds periodically to evaluate maintenance and custodial service.
  • Greet visitors and provide information on the program of the school.
  • Provide for the orientation of staff and proper communications thereafter.
  • Be responsible for the administration of board policy and school regulations within the school areas.
  • Engage in parent conferences and in conference dealing with repeated offenders to school rules, especially in cases of suspension or exclusion.
  • Serve on district and other committees generally dealing with the advancement of education.
  • Initiate and supervise effective guidance procedures to serve the individual needs of the students including testing.
  • Plan and implement special school activities such as graduation, honor society, career day, etc.
  • Develop rapport with the community through public relations including newsletters, attendance at meetings, and speaking engagements.
  • Be directly involved with the interviewing and hiring of teacher candidates.
