Mechanical Engineer, Operations Manager
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Project Manager to join a leading General Contractor delivering a large-scale Hyperscale Data Center project in North Dakota. This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all mechanical and MEP project operations from preconstruction through commissioning and final handover.
The successful candidate will bring a strong MEP or mechanical contracting background with proven experience delivering complex technical construction projects. Previous hyperscale data center experience is highly preferred; however, candidates with experience in semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, industrial, pharmaceutical, or other mission-critical environments will also be considered.
This is a full‑time site‑based role with two company‑supported trips home per month.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all mechanical project delivery activities across a major hyperscale data center development
- Manage mechanical subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and field teams to ensure safe and efficient execution
- Oversee project schedules, budgets, procurement, forecasting, and reporting
- Coordinate closely with client representatives, design consultants, commissioning teams, and internal operations leadership
- Drive quality assurance and ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and industry standards
- Support preconstruction planning, constructability reviews, sequencing, and value engineering initiatives
- Monitor productivity, manpower planning, and overall project performance
- Ensure all mechanical systems are delivered in accordance with commissioning and operational requirements
- Lead issue resolution and maintain strong communication with all project stakeholders
- Support project turnover, commissioning, testing, balancing, and final closeout activities
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Project Manager or Senior MEP Project Manager on large-scale construction projects
- Strong background working for a General Contractor, Mechanical Contractor, or MEP Contractor
- Candidates with semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, mission-critical, pharmaceutical, industrial, or highly technical project experience are encouraged to apply
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems including HVAC, chilled water, piping, and MEP coordination
- Experience managing large subcontractor packages and fast-track project schedules
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work full-time on-site in North Dakota
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline preferred
