Role Overview

We are seeking a Commissioning Manager to work with one of the world's largest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) developers. This role involves overseeing subcontractors and OEMs in the delivery, installation, and startup of BESS and Solar Coupled Power systems. As the owner's representative, you will manage various aspects of the energy storage system project, including construction turnover, pre-energization, commissioning, and performance testing to ensure a quality product is delivered.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee subcontractors and OEMs throughout the delivery, installation, quality control, and startup of BESS and Solar Coupled Power systems.
• Manage and report on construction turnover, pre-energization, commissioning, and performance testing performed by contractors and vendors.
• Perform detailed system quality control inspections for completeness against installation manuals, engineering specifications, and drawings, maintaining a detailed punch-list.
• Create and manage energization plans and oversee EPC and OEM commissioning procedures.
• Assist in troubleshooting commissioning anomalies as the primary subject matter expert.
• Prepare and review project close-out and testing documents, providing daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports to management.
• Interface with the project's designated management committees, third parties, and internal teams to ensure alignment on testing requirements.
• Develop and lead the execution of a complete testing plan for assigned projects to meet all contractual deliverables.
• Manage substation testing, energization, and the ISO/GIA/PPA commissioning process.

Required Qualifications

Education:

An Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Power Generation, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is required.

Experience:

11-15 years of experience in power plant commissioning, working with EPC Contractors, engineering firms, and equipment suppliers. Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems installation and startup is necessary.

Technical

Skills:

• Thorough understanding of the technical performance and integration of Li-Ion batteries as part of an ESS.
• Experience with substation testing, startup, protection, and controls.
• Knowledge of containerized systems, skids, controllers/SCADA, transformers, and combiners.
• Proficiency with DC systems (0-2,000
  
  Vdc) and AC systems (480V-34.5kV).
• Familiarity with troubleshooting programmable logic controllers (PLC) and industrial electronic equipment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

• A background in power systems commissioning with at least 100MW-hr or 5 energy storage systems.
• Direct experience with BESS and SCADA systems.

Work Environment

This position requires up to 75% travel to project locations for the duration of commissioning. Other work may be performed remotely, supporting teams in remote SCADA monitoring and commissioning portfolio management. Physical requirements include the ability to see color, stand for prolonged periods, walk on uneven terrain in various weather conditions, and lift a minimum of 20 pounds. Driving will be required, and a valid driver's license with a clean record is necessary.
