Role OverviewThis is a seasonal position, you can use your winters off to travel, hunt, fish or for other activities you enjoy while your benefits continue year round.
This position is responsible to safely operate machine that spreads and levels hot-mix bituminous paving material on subgrade of highways and streets for asphalt paving machine to spread and smooth freshly poured asphalt surfaces for roads and landing fields. Coordinates dumping of trucks.
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES- Perform daily equipment, walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained.
- Safely and properly perform maintenance on paver.
- Safely and properly operate paver. Controls flow of material into hopper and through paving machine. Observes distribution of paving materials and controls direction of machine.
- Shovel blacktop as needed.
- Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations. Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous/respectful of others.
- Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.). Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
- Ensure OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulation compliance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Basic knowledge of world events and acceptable interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card and acceptable driving record.
- Mechanical skills to perform maintenance, light repair and assembly/disassembly for transporting equipment.
