Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery (LDRP) position requiring a compact or ND RN license and expertise in fetal monitoring.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute care Critical Access Hospital (CAH) setting on the LDRP unit
- Unit consists of 15 beds: 7 Labor & Delivery, 8 Postpartum, and 1 OR suite for C-sections
- Typical patient population includes obstetric and neonatal cases, with common diagnoses such as hypertension and gestational diabetes
- Average of 58 births per month
- Nurse to patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 for pitocin, magnesium, or insulin drips, 1:3 for couplet care
- Shifts are 12 hours, with day and night shifts available; block scheduling offered
- Call may be required depending on staffing needs
- Every other weekend and every other holiday coverage required
- Floating to Med Surg and ER within skillset is required, with permanent staff floating first
- Uses Meditech EMR and Philips tele monitors, with fetal monitoring on traceview/PIP
- Provide comprehensive nursing care throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum stages
- May float to other units such as Med Surg or ER as needed
- Work alongside CNAs and surgical techs for support and patient care
- Charge nurse is present and takes an assignment on each shift
- Maroon scrubs provided and must be worn during shift
- Three shifts of department-specific orientation are provided
- Requested time off (RTO) must be declared up front; no additional RTO will be approved
- Holiday assignment required per schedule; no self-scheduling allowed but block scheduling available
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Active ND or compact RN license required at time of submission
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
- Certifications required: BLS and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (preferred: ACLS, NRP, STABLE)
- Ability to read and interpret fetal strips is mandatory
- Must have experience titrating pitocin, insulin, and magnesium drips
- Strong critical thinking, adaptability, and communication skills needed
- Must not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity in the past 12 months
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Copy of driver’s license and two references (one supervisor from past 12 months, one peer or supervisor from past 3 years) required for consideration
