Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery & Postpartum) position at an acute care hospital in North Dakota, requiring intermediate fetal monitoring certification and a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience.
Responsibilities- Acute care hospital LDRP unit with 15 total beds — 7 L&D and 8 postpartum
- One OR suite on the unit for C-sections, averaging approximately 58 births per month
- Patient population includes obstetric and neonatal patients with common diagnoses of hypertension, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), and preterm risk (facility avoids delivering under 36 weeks when possible)
- Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 ratio for pitocin, magnesium, or insulin drips; 1:3 for couplet care
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including pitocin, insulin, and magnesium
- RNs are required to independently read and interpret fetal monitor strips; EFM system is Traceview/PIP with Philips monitors
- EMR is MEDITECH; experience preferred
- 12-hour shifts; day shift hours 0645–1915, night shift hours 1845–0715
- On-call requirement depending on staffing needs
- Every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- Floating required to Med/Surg and ER as needed; permanent staff typically float first
- Block scheduling available; self-scheduling is not permitted
- 13-week contract
- Unit is a locked department; CNAs are on staff to assist with vitals, transfer paperwork, patient ambulation, and turning
- Charge nurse is present on each shift and takes a patient assignment
- OB/neonatology and anesthesia are not in-house 24/7
- RT equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow) is available on the unit; RNs are not required to do more than troubleshoot RT equipment
- Maroon scrubs are required; surgical scrubs are provided and worn on the unit
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past 12 months are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- All requested RTO must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
- Successful candidates on this unit tend to be adaptable, strong critical thinkers, and effective communicators
- Active ND RN license or Compact (NLC) license currently in hand; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Required certifications: BLS and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring; preferred certifications include ACLS, NRP, and STABLE
- Minimum 2 years of L&D/LDRP experience required
- Ability to read and interpret fetal monitor strips independently
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to titrate drips
- Previous travel nursing experience preferred
- BSN not required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
