Cashier – Dining Hall – Evening Shift

As a Cashier, you will be the friendly face that makes every customer's day a little brighter. No experience? No problem! We’ll train you and set you up for success.
Day in the Life of a Dining Hall Cashier- Start your shift by setting up your register, ensuring your area is clean and stocked.
- Welcome service members and guests with a friendly attitude.
- Scan or meal passes and take payments when needed.
- Keep your station neat and refill supplies like napkins and trays.
- Answer questions or help people find what they need.
- Work as a team with kitchen staff and supervisors.
- Let your supervisor know if something isn’t working right.
- Clean up your area and help count your drawer before you leave.
- Friendly and enjoys helping others.
- Smiles and greets customers politely.
- Speaks clearly and listens well.
- Willingness to learn new tasks.
- Stays calm when it gets busy.
- Open to learning new things and following instructions.

- Standing for extended periods—Cashiers typically stand for 8 to 10 hours per shift, with limited opportunities to sit.
- Frequent hand and arm use—Repetitive motions like scanning items, handling money, and using a touchscreen register.
- Occasionally lift or carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Bending, reaching, and twisting—To grab products, restock bags, or clean the checkout area.
- Must be able to clearly see screens, read labels, and hear customer questions or announcements.
- Typically climate‑controlled, but may be near doors or windows with temperature changes.
- Stores or dining halls can be noisy, especially during peak hours or events.
- Floors are often tile or concrete, which can be tiring without proper footwear.
- May occasionally use or be near mild cleaning agents for sanitizing work areas.
