Knowledge of landfill operations, maintenance, and use of heavy motor equipment in general construction and maintenance activities. Knowledge of the traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations related to equipment operation. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in the operation of heavy motor driven equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions.
Skill in the operation of heavy motor driven equipment over rough, slippery, or unstable surfaces.
High school graduate or equivalent.
ExperienceExperience in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment. Two years as Light Equipment Operator.
Necessary Special RequirementPosition Requirements
Position is safety sensitive and requires pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and is subject to controlled substance requirements at all times when on duty.
Equipment Used in Job PerformanceDump trucks, front-end loaders, garbage trucks, compactors, scrapers, sand spreaders, blade, pumps, lawn mower, weed eater, computer, radio.
Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
