Drama Department Music Director Needed
The Williston Central School (WCS) Drama department is seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated professional to serve as our Music Director for our next musical production, Peter Pan Jr. The Music Director will work alongside the current Artistic Team to foster a supportive and collaborative environment, helping a cast of up to 60+ students and performers develop their talents both on and off the stage.
This is a part-time, category B stipend position. The production schedule begins with preliminary meetings in November 2026 and runs through the final performances in early April 2027. Candidates must have the ability to attend all scheduled auditions, rehearsals, and performances.
Primary Responsibilities
- Teach and rehearse all show music with a cast of up to 60+ students, including choral directing, vocal harmonies, and basic music sight-reading.
- Utilize sufficient piano skills to play vocal parts directly from the score as an essential part of teaching the music.
- Manage and operate digital audio tracks during rehearsals and live performances.
- Maintain full availability for the production calendar, including:
- Table meetings (November) and Parent Info Meetings (December)
- Auditions (Mid-December)
- Regular rehearsals (Typically Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays from 3:00–5:00 PM)
- Weekend commitments (Saturday 3/20 and Saturday 3/27)
- Daily Tech Week rehearsals (3/22–3/26)
- Performance dates (4/1–4/3, plus additional in-school daytime performances earlier that week)
- Attend production meetings as an active member of the Artistic Team and work closely with colleagues, families, and school staff to ensure program continuity.
- Manage multi-age student behaviors during all rehearsals and performances, maintaining safety and following the school's behavior expectations and systems.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess
- Proven experience in choral directing, vocal coaching, and strong piano accompaniment skills.
- Excellent classroom and behavior management skills, with a proven ability to mentor and motivate a large, multi-age cast of middle school-aged students.
- Strong interpersonal skills, emphasizing relationship building, teamwork, and excellent communication with colleagues, parents, and the broader school community.
- Proficiency or familiarity with audio and production tools such as GoButton, QLab, iMac, Google Suite, and Chromebooks.
- A dedication to fostering an inclusive, welcoming environment that represents and welcomes all students and families.

This is a part-time stipend position based on qualifications and experience. The position is a "category B activity" on our co-curricular contract and the compensation is based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement. More information about CVSD can be found on our district website.
