Bethesda Day Break Activity Aide
Job Summary:
The CNA/Activity Aid will provide immediate personal care to clients; observe and report any changes in physical condition or behavior to program director and RN consultant, assist with planning, preparing and implementing daily activity program and serve meals/snacks and assist with clean-up as assigned.
Hours of Work:
Full-time or part-time as scheduled
Dress Code:
Street clothing appropriate in a business environment with identification name badge.
Essential Requirements of Work: (Minimum qualifications necessary to function at full productivity)
- Education and Training:
High school diploma or equivalent - NA/R training and certification (not required)
- CPR and First Aid training and certification
- Previous work with elderly or physically challenged persons is desirable.

Physical Demands of the Job:
- Frequent walking, twisting, standing, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling movements
- Occasional squatting, kneeling sitting and reaching above shoulder level
- Occasionally lifting weights 30 pounds
- Exposure to communicable diseases
Mental Demands of the Job:
- Ability to cope with a variety of people and various physical and mental states
- Ability to cope with frequent interruptions
- Ability to cope with many distressed, depressed or lonely people
- Ability to assist with tasks in all areas of the Adult Day Services program including serving meals and clean-up
- Ability to make decisions regarding client safety in emergency situations
- Ability to deal with limited place and no quiet place for concentration
- Ability to deal with clients with dementia

Job Responsibilities:
Responsibility:
Assisting with client care and programming.
- Clients are treated with care and respect. They are assisted with transfers and toileting needs as necessary, in a timely manner. Other client requests are handled promptly.
- Bathe assigned clients, clean w/p or tub and chair after each use.
- Observe and report any incidents, changes in condition or behavior to Program Director/RN Consultant.
- Assist clients with bowel and bladder cares and maintain cleanliness
- Provide aseptic techniques to prevent spread of disease, infection
- Take TPR's, BP's and weights as assigned.
- Assist with meal serving and snack preparation in accordance with food handling policies, as assigned.
- Answer phone.
- Assist with charting of client monthly progress notes.
- Assist with clean-up of program area as assigned.
- Share pertinent client information with Program Director and team members.
Responsibility:
Make daily reminder calls to clients and establish attendance list
- Check with program assistant before making calls for pertinent client information for the day.
- Call clients
- Establish list of clients attending for the day.
- Check for client appointments outside of ADS or other changes in clients' schedules for the day.
- Coordinate client daily schedule and attendance list with passenger assist's schedule and alert program assistant to changes in client schedules.
- Relate pertinent information to Program Director/staff regarding client's schedules for the day.
Responsibility:
Provide leadership for planning monthly client activity calendars.
- Collect appropriate activity data
- Present data to staff for discussion.
- Work with assigned staff to insure completion of activity calendar making arrangements for speakers and entertainment.
- Work with assigned staff to insure all needed supplies are present for activity programming.
