Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist, you will support the patient evaluation, treatment, development of care plans, and the completion of all required documentation and communication. Follows established physical therapy standards, as well as all Bethesda's policies, procedures, and state regulations.

Reports to:

Director of Rehabilitation

  • Internal: SNF Administrator, Home Health and Hospice Director, Director of Nursing, Social Services, Human Resources, Accounts Payable, Billing.
  • External:
    Physicians, Medical Director, MDH personnel, CMS surveyors, hospital discharge planners, referral sources, patients and families, and the general community.

Hours of Work:
Full-time

Dress Code:
Clean, fitted scrubs in solid colors or simple patterns

Essential Requirements of Work: (Minimum qualifications necessary to function at full productivity.)

  • Education:

    Associates Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program and licensed in the state of MN.
  • One to three years of prior experience in a rehabilitation setting, such as acute care, inpatient rehab, outpatient clinics, SNFS, long-term care, assisted living, memory care, or home health.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulations.
  • Highly developed communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to adapt to various work settings and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work varying hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in Screening & Evaluation:
    Assist the Occupational Therapist in implementing treatment plans for residents, focusing on improving daily living activities.
  • Implement Treatment Plans:
    Deliver therapeutic interventions and treatment activities to residents according to established treatment plans; adapt techniques based on patient response, consulting with the OT as indicated.
  • Monitor Progress & Document Outcomes:
    Track patient responses to intervention; document progress toward identified objectives; report status and needs to patients, families, staff, and other professionals; consult with OT if modifications are needed.
  • Support Treatment Planning:
    Assist the Occupational Therapist in identifying problem lists, goals, and treatment strategies; help establish and modify individual resident schedules in collaboration with the care team.
  • Educate Patients, Families & Staff:
    Provide education on therapeutic techniques, exercises, and adaptive strategies to enhance patient independence and quality of life; deliver in-service training to care team members.
  • Collaborate:
    Work with occupational therapists, nursing staff, and other professionals to support comprehensive rehabilitation programming and coordinate patient care.
  • Maintain Professional Standards:
    Adhere to documentation policies, infection control guidelines, safety standards, and universal precautions; pursue continuing education and professional development.
  • Physical Demands of the Job:

  • Standing and walking required for extended periods.
  • Occasional kneeling, stooping, squatting, twisting, and bending.
  • Sitting required for documentation, administrative, and computer-based tasks.
  • Professional and Personal Growth:

  • Report for and leave the work area on a timely basis.
  • Participate in the annual performance evaluation process.
  • Participate in all required in-service programs at Bethesda.
  • Maintain professional conduct and a positive, collaborative attitude toward staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Be willing to learn and adapt to meet the evolving needs of the organization.
