NURSING ASSISTANT/RESIDENT ASSISTANT
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary: Provides quality, efficient and loving care to each resident in a personalized way. Assists in the common goal of maintaining the well-being of each resident by working as a primary caregiver. Meets the basic needs of assigned residents by supervising or assisting residents with ADLs.
Job Relationships:
Reports to:Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, and Director of Nursing. Interrelationships with:
Other Nursing Assistants, Transportation Aides, Rehabilitation Aides. Internal Contacts:
Activities, Housekeeping, Dietary, and Maintenance personnel. External Contacts:
Visitors, family and friends or residents, and volunteers.
Hours of Work :
Shift work will vary depending on shift and floor
Day shift – 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Evening shift – 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Night shift – 10:00PM – 6:30 AM
Scheduled to work every other weekend, including holiday rotation.
Dress Code: Clean, fitted scrubs in solid colors or simple patterns. Bethesda shirts.
Footwear: Closed-toe, comfortable, slip-resistant shoes.
Hair and Hygiene:Maintain a high standard of cleanliness, oral hygiene and deodorant. Neatly tied back if long.
Identification:Visible name badge, worn on chest area.
PPE:Compliance with facility guidelines for masks, gloves, goggles, etc. if applicable.
Piercings: Covered or removed if posing infection or safety risk.
Tattoos: Covered or removed if posing infection or safety risk.
General Appearance:Clean, unwrinkled scrubs. Minimal jewelry/accessories. Nails must be kept clean and neatly trimmed or filed. Jeans with no holes or rips on Fridays.
Essential Requirement of Work: (Minimum qualifications necessary to function at full productivity).
- Training:
Successful completion of an approved competency evaluation or an approved nursing assistant training program and competency evaluation within four months from the date of employment. - In-serve
Education:
No less than 12-hours per year to ensure continued competence and address any areas of weakness as determined by performance reviews. - Knowledge, Skills, and Ability for Full Performance:
- Ability and desire to follow all safety procedures.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Ability to foster independence, self-respect, and self-worth in each client by consistent understanding and kindness.
- Use of equipment including tubs, lifts, splints, but not limited to, and ability to take vital signs.
- Knowledge of basic health and identifying changes in residents.
- Ability to successfully complete tasks on time and to be of assistance to others.
- Knowledge and appreciation of all rules and guidelines for resident care such as transfers and cleaning procedures.
- Use of transfer devices, safety procedures, and proper lifting techniques.
- Ability to use a computer.
- Personal:
- Ability to perform well with co-workers in a teamwork setting.
- Respect for others, residents, and staff alike.
- Ability to communicate.
- Ability to interpret or explain certain procedures or activities, to enlist and maintain cooperation from residents.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow directions.
- Genuine interest and willingness to work with cognitively impaired and/or geriatric aged clients.
Physical Demands of the Job:
- Frequent bending and stooping
- Standing for prolonged periods of time
- Patient handlers must sign & comply with the Skilled Nursing Facility Safe Patient Handling Policy.
Mental Demands of the Job:
- Working in an environment with many residents who exhibit a wide range of emotions and needs including occasionally aggressive residents.
- Ability to operate within time restraints.
- Ability to change work assignments with short notice.
