The Driver Trainer primarily focuses on providing quality training to newly hired licensed Commercial Drivers, as they earn their CDL and advance their qualifications. The role involves continuing education and required retraining following federal, state, Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and West Central Sanitation (WCS) safety compliance guidelines. Responsibilities include managing driver/laborer training and performance, maintaining schedules, and overseeing daily route tasks for new employees and established drivers with additional training requirements.
The Driver Trainer may assist in leading operations and supervising day‑to‑day collection activities in one or more lines of business (rear load, front load, commercial, residential, industrial roll‑off, semi and/or container delivery and pickup) across a geographically dispersed area. The Trainer also observes work environments for compliance with all safety guidelines, suggests best practices for productivity, and proposes resolutions for route issues.
The Trainer represents West Central Sanitation’s “Good Neighbor” service and standards to coworkers, the public, industry partners, and customers. The Trainer keeps drivers and customers happy, motivates the team to grow and succeed, and is essential to the operation.
Minimum Qualifications- At least 21 years of age.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Successfully complete and pass applicable pre‑employment background check, driving record review, and drug screening.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements and demands of the position.
- Reliable commute to the designated work location.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- 18 months or more of relevant work experience in transportation, driving, or logistics is preferred.
- Five years of management experience supervising 10+ employees in labor or commercial driving is preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered adequate.
- Ability to absorb, present, and relay provided information and processes that facilitate engaged learning.
- Ability to instruct and communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to definitively communicate objectives, monitor training progress, and evaluate achievement.
- Focus on safety, especially when teaching and training others.
- Good judgment of others’ talents during training and developing high‑performing employees.
- Ability to provide progress reports and feedback/improvements regarding training and materials.
- Ability to maintain and update accurate records of required and completed training.
- Collaboration as a team leader with the propensity for patience and the ability to build teams.
- Strong work ethic and people skills.
- Ability to prepare materials, vehicles, locations, and the actual range for driver training.
