CNC Mill Machinist
This role focuses on setting up and operating vertical CNC machining centers to produce high-precision components in a job shop environment. You will handle short production runs, interpret complex blueprints, and ensure parts meet tight tolerances using precision measuring tools. The position requires strong G and M code knowledge, the ability to troubleshoot machining issues, and a commitment to maintaining safety and quality standards in a clean, climate-controlled machine shop.
Responsibilities- Set up and operate vertical CNC machining centers, including Mori and Okuma machines, for high-precision production.
- Load raw materials, tooling, and fixtures into the machines in accordance with job specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to determine machining operations, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Inspect machined parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring equipment to verify conformance to specifications.
- Make machine and tool offset adjustments as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy and part quality.
- Perform machine adjustments and edits using G and M codes to optimize machining performance and resolve issues.
- Troubleshoot machining and tooling problems, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
- Perform routine machine maintenance to keep equipment in proper working condition and minimize downtime.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while maintaining a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
- Work effectively in a job shop environment handling 1–30 piece runs with a strong focus on precision machining.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure efficient workflow and on-time completion of jobs.
- At least 5 years of CNC machining experience on vertical machining centers.
- Proven ability to set up vertical CNC machining centers, including tooling, fixturing, and program verification.
- Strong blueprint reading skills with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Hands-on experience editing and adjusting G and M codes directly at the machine control.
- Proficiency with CNC vertical machining centers, including operation and basic troubleshooting.
- Ability to use precision quality inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and other measuring instruments.
- Demonstrated capability to maintain tight tolerances and high-quality standards in a production environment.
- Solid understanding of machining safety practices and adherence to established safety procedures.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a job shop environment with short-run production (1–30 piece runs).
- Experience in precision machining for industries such as aerospace, automotive, or commercial components.
- Familiarity with vertical machining centers similar to Mori and Okuma brands.
- Ability to perform routine preventive maintenance on CNC machines.
- Strong problem-solving skills for diagnosing machining and tooling issues.
- Attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset when inspecting and documenting part conformity.
This is a Permanent position based out of Willoughby, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $76960.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
